Believe the
appropriate initial response is to move as many needed goods like food, water
and medicine as quickly as possible via established transportation and
distribution channels.
As a result Project Las Americas has donated one million
pesos in goods to Caritas Dominicana which is trucking them to Caritas in
Haiti. Caritas in conjunction with Catholic Relief Services both have
significant resources and staff in Haiti. Their long term presence in Haiti
allows them to operate effectively in this very complicated and overwhelming
effort.
As additional
resources become available to us, we will identify specific opportunities to
respond quickly. As reported many of the Dominican boarder hospitals are
treating Haitian victims and supplies are scarce or non-existent. With your
support we can procure needed supplies and respond immediately to these types of
needs.
We will maintain or posture of zero administrative and logistical
support via Dominican corporate and NGO contributions. We are also exploring
projects to implement BioSand filters to alleviate waterborne disease and ease
logistical challenges of providing bottled water.
