We have been
participating for several years with FUNDIDOH a small Haitian faith based
organization in Tiroli Haiti. Despite the challenges and scarce resources they
have made a significant impact in the areas of health, education and farming.
In 2008 Project Las Americas provided financial resources to establish a seed
bank for black beans and peanuts. The seeds are loaned out on the basis that
when they harvest they will return 1.25 times the initial loan in seed.
Project Las
Americas also purchased the land and building for the FUNDIDOH elementary school
in Tiroli. As resources become available the property can be used for
additional community development activities.
We have also
donated hand and power tools for the establishment of a woodworking shop on the
Dominican side across from Tiroli in Villa Anacaona. Currently there is no
furniture is manufactured locally. The intention is to develop skills, create
light industry and provide economical goods.
Other areas we are exploring:
Establishing a tree nursery in Tiroli.
Deforestation has caused an ecological disaster in Haiti and we would like to
contribute to reforestation projects.
Women’s
sewing cooperative.
Developing skills and creating cottage industry.
Arts and
crafts workshops.
Develop skills and create light industrial production.
